Belo's got a new man

MANILA, Philippines--Dr. Vicki Belo has a new man in her life. And he's her boss.

Meet Enrique M. Soriano III, who took over the reins of the Belo Medical Group Inc., owner of seven Belo clinics in the metropolis, as group CEO.

His entry was quite for a group owned by a celebrity, but Soriano's plans are not at all quiet. These include a possible public offering at the Singapore Stock Exchange where a couple of other Filipino firms are listed.

In a one-on-one with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Soriano says he has been affected by "proceduritis" the past months--creating systems and matrices for the 18-year-old Belo group which, despite its size, has remained in some ways a "mom-and-pop" type of operation because of Belo's hands-on management style.

skin health and aesthetic benefits that Hydresia(TM) brings to other
finished formulations.

News of Cherrytree

My family and I just happened to go to the free public dinner at Burgess Park this past Thursday night. I have to say I was a bit apprehensive at first, but I was quite surprised to see many of my neighbors were there, too. The week before a family from our community was there volunteering. What a very nice thing - a free dinner to those who care to attend - or the other side of the coin, those who volunteer their time. Wow, I enjoy seeing neighbors helping neighbors.MotherhoodThis Mom's Life. "I think what surprised me the most about motherhood, as sentimental as it sounds, is how much I love my kids. I mean, I just can't believe it. It's like a whole new dimension in emotion that I've never experienced." Gwyneth Paltrow.

Wound care is new service at Alliance Community Hospital

Chronic wounds leave patients with long and grueling battles that not only take a toll emotionally, but could leave them without a limb. To help combat these serious problems, Alliance Community Hospital is now offering a brand new service -- Wound Care Advantage. The new wound care center serviced its first patient Monday during the official site opening.

Located at 120 E. State St. (adjacent to the main hospital), the wound center, which features two large hyperbaric chambers, has been an ongoing project which has taken a lot of preparation by a team of physicians and medical professionals and renovation of the new facility.

Program Director Melissa Loudon explained that ACH partnered with Wound Care Advantage of California to open the center, which will treat non-emergent patients on an outpatient basis.

Juicy, tender chicken from oven, stovetop

Roasted chicken. Chef Thomas Keller waxed poetic about it on a recent episode of "Charlie Rose." It has "reference points," he noted. A big browned bird signals a relaxed supper after a lazy Sunday. And a whole roasted chicken, crisp-skinned and juicy and aromatic, is delicious.Even when deconstructed to its humble parts, chicken can hit all the same notes from stovetop or oven, with a few easy techniques — the right ones for the right cut.Chicken breasts are succulent and tender when pounded thin and quickly sauteed until golden brown, then finished in a rustic Basque-style sauce. The chicken breast’s reputation precedes it; it’s at once adored by the health-conscious and derided by dark-meat loyalists. It’s routinely mishandled and overcooked, but it can also be tender, and redolent with flavor.Braised thighs are first sauteed, then simmered in chicken broth, sherry vinegar and lemon juice, embellished with shallots and punchy capers.

Men and bulimia: Why suffer in silence?

Many people have said how surprised they are that John Prescott suffered from bulimia for 20 years, but it's no surprise to me. As a psychotherapist, I have treated several men battling eating disorders and I have suffered from anorexia myself. I'm only sorry Prescott didn't say it when he was deputy prime Minister, though I realise he was probably never going to do that. One positive thing to come out of this is that it might help people to start conversations about their own relationships with food. It's not an easy thing to do.

My problems started when I was 10 years old. My parents had moved us to South Africa, which was an overwhelming change for me. We arrived at the height of apartheid and I found the appalling iniquities and day-to-day violence hard to deal with.

More companies, ad firms adopting email marketing

The Austin Plastic Surgery Institute wants to keep up its relationship with its skin care clinic customers.

So once a month, it emails a newsletter filled with skin care-related promotions and news tidbits.

"What makes [email marketing] attractive is that it's less expensive, and we are able to tweak it when we have a particular promotion, a new product announcement or new equipment," says Dr. Scott Haydon, APSI cofounder.

APSI is just one of the many businesses that are sending emails to existing or prospective customers in hopes of driving business and establishing a brand.
