Landmark Survey Uncovers Reasons Why Women Are Not Able to Properly Address Their Skin Care Issues

The condition of a woman's skin has a serious impact on her self-esteem, according to results from a new landmark skin care survey announced today sponsored by Obagi Medical Products, Inc. (Nasdaq: OMPI - News), a leader in physician-dispensed topical aesthetic and therapeutic skin health systems. The survey, entitled "Women and Skincare: A Quest For Real Results," was developed to identify women's attitudes, behaviors and desires when it comes to skin health. Further, even though the majority of respondents feel a skin care professional is the best source for skin care information, they continue to seek solutions without the advice of a medical skincare professional.

The majority of women (84%) have at least one issue with their skin. This peaks among women in their 40s, who report having four skin care issues.

Genesis Genomics goes to market with at-home skin test

Local biotechnology firm Genesis Genomics has launched a new product it hopes will change the face of the cosmoceutical marketplace.

For the first time ever a take-home product will have the ability to detect DNA damage to a person's skin from UV exposure, to identify future risks and show the best way to treat any damage that may exist. And it is performed by a simple cotton swab.

Genesis Genomics has put it's science behind a new line of skin care and repair products that will hit the shelves in nine markets around the world next month.

Once risk factors are identified there is a line of treatments specially designed to either protect an individual or even repair damage already done at the most basic DNA level. Shopper's Drug Mart has signed on and will carry the product in 800 stores nationwide.

Feeling Great in 2008

It was all about being healthy and feeling great in 2008 at the New York State Fairgrounds Sunday.

Nature-Tyme held a health extravaganza called “Feeling Great in 2008". 2,000 people attended and learned how to be healthy, look good, and live long. There were workshops through the day. Much of the discussion was about food, not only how much to eat - but what to eat to be your best self.

“People are understanding their place in the world. They're coming into consciousness of what they're eating, what they're supplementing, what they're putting on their body all has a connection, and people are really anxious to learn,: Natur-Tyme owner Wendy Meyerson says.

There were also cooking demonstrations and organic clothing and skin care products for sale.

Newest Implanted Heart-Assisting Device Tested by Newest Certified Heart Device Program

April 23, 2008 - Once upon a time, people whose hearts were failing had two choices: hope that their own heart kept pumping until they could receive a transplant, or face a certain death, which they might fend off for a while using medicines.

But the last decade has brought incredible advances in technologies that help a failing heart keep pumping. New devices including one approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on April 21 are giving patients a better chance at receiving a transplant, or even helping them survive without getting a new heart.

Now, the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center has become only the third center in the country to be certified independently for its heart-device program.

The certification recognizes the broad range of services and high quality of care for advanced heart failure patients at U-M, which offers adults and children access to nearly a dozen heart-assist devices and a full range of medical and surgical care.

Love story stuffed in suitcase opens window

They met, fell in love and, in the manner of so many others, wed at the onset of a war that hung like a cloud over their dreams of a future together.

From that point, two key circumstances divert the tale of Olivia Merriwether and Inman Perkins' short-lived romance from the norm.

One was a marriage hidden — out of necessity — from the bride's employer, the St. Louis School District.

The other being that for nearly 60 years the story of their relationship remained stuffed in a suitcase. .
